I say, to a certain extent the power to decide what is right and wrong is within you.
Again, to a certain extent. |

I believe the decision of what is good comes from the individual, working in cohesion with the masses, and those-in-control.
"Where does that come from?" someone is bound to ask.
I am not an anthropologist, nor am I a psychic, know-it-all, or any kind of expert in anything other than a couple of comic book characters.
I am unable to determine the exact moment humans (or whatever became humans, if you believe in that) developed the thought level to discern beneficial and maleficial situations and consequences. Because of that, I can really only make assumptions that might be faulty.
One of them is this, and for the sake of slashes and language, I'll be referring to humanity as "man". If you feel this makes me sexist, keep it to yourself.:
As man gathered into tribes and small societies and such, he would have learned that acting upon his own wishes and desire would not be the most beneficial situation.
If he found a woman that, say, his friend was "in possession of" for whatever reason (be it whatever determined marriage at the time, or a couple designated for childbearing or whatever) and wanted to claim her for his own, yet his friend would not allow it, that could certainly degrade that bond and if enough of a problem persisted (they could invoke a lot of "me or him" logic with fellow tribesmen) this would cause a rift between the people and could eventually lead to a intra-tribal conflict.
So, people may have thought about situations like that, and determined things like "Don't do that."
And eventually things could have advanced even more.
Of course, God could've just come down and told Moses "Hey, man, tell the Israelites not to covet the wife or house of their neighbor, and not to commit adultery." |
